What is Infra Red?

Infrared Rays

Infrared is a type of light just beyond what the eye can see. We can't see it, but we feel it as warmth, the same gentle heat you feel from the sun on a clear winter's day.

How infrared saunas work

A traditional Finnish-style sauna heats the air around you, typically to between 70°C and 100°C, and that hot air warms your body.

An infrared sauna works differently. Its heaters give off radiant heat that warms your body directly, rather than heating the air first. That means the air inside stays much cooler, usually around 40°C to 60°C, while you still enjoy a deep, enveloping warmth and a good sweat.

Why people love them

For many people, the lower air temperature makes an infrared sauna more comfortable than a traditional one. It's easier to breathe, easier to relax, and many find they can enjoy a longer session.

The gentle warmth is soothing for tired muscles after exercise or a long day, and the quiet, enclosed space makes it a natural place to switch off. With colour lighting and your favourite music, a session becomes a simple ritual for winding down.

Using your sauna well

Start with shorter sessions of 10 to 15 minutes and build up as you get comfortable. Drink plenty of water before and after, and step out if you feel dizzy or unwell.

If you're pregnant, have a heart condition or other health concerns, or take medication, check with your doctor before using a sauna.
